How many Spydercos are sold to "Collectors"?

Well, I just got a Kopa and a Centofante 3 in the mail today, which brings me up to an even 80 Spydies in my knife collection. That got me to thinking about how many of these knives end up with people who consider themselves collectors, or at least have several knives. As opposed to the person who just buys a Spydie as their only knife for EDC. I'd guess that the Spyderco section is probably the most active manufacturer forum here on BF, and I KNOW that there are many folks who collect Spydies who aren't members. I had over 50 Spydies, and close to 140 folders of all brands before I joined.

So I'm wondering what the percentage of Spyderco's sales go to knife geeks. What do you guys think?

This might be more common among Spyderco enthusiasts. With me, I just decided to try Spyderco out as my every day carry. Now I must have 10-15 Spydercos and I just recently ordered the Brad Southard. I never in my life imagined I'd buy an expensive knife...

two ways to find out: one is you talk to dealers and find out how many repeat customers they have (and what incentives do they give -discounts, first offer, etc.) the other way is easier: make a poll here in BF. just a warning, BF frequent forumers may belong to the collector class so you might not get a fair survey.

I can't keep my knives out of my pockets, its an affliction. I have the Southard, Para 2, Caly 3 SB, Sage I, and an old Delica I don't EDC any more but I grind on for fun and practice. The others all get pocket time. At some point it will become impractical to rotate them all, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I'm sure it depends on the model. With some, like the regular production versions of the Delica, I suspect that collector sales would only account for a very small percentage of overall sales. For some Sprints and Exclusives, and for some other "limited production" models, like the Kopa, I suspect collectors and "speculators/investors" account for a much larger percentage of original sales and a fair amount of resales on the secondary market as well. For some "exotic steel" Sprints and Exclusives, I suspect enthusiast sales probably equal or exceed collector/speculator/investor sales.
