On any 1095 becker knife, how may times can you sharpen before you start running into issues?

PS) Anybody know of any places to pick up the new BK2/BK22 sheath other than the kabar site?

It would take you quite a long time. Probably more than a lifetime as long as you don't sharpen on a bench grinder.

As for the sheath check tomars.

I don’t understand the question.

I've sharpened knives until the blades were toothpicks.

They weren't Beckers, but a 1095 blade is a 1095 blade.

Basically what a knife is, is hardened sharpened steel. In this specific case, steel type is irrelevant, but you can sharpen the steel until there is steel left to sharpen.

If there is a piece of steel to sharpen, it can be done. There is no limit irrespective of the amount of material you have.

I have an old Camillus version of the USMC KaBar knife I've sharpened over and over again and put that knife through all kinds of use for about 25 years. It's still sharp as a scalpel and it's 1095.

Likewise the Camillus BK-5 I've used more than any other knife and my two Ontario Machetes.

I've never worn out or broke a good 1095 blade.

Unlike an axe, the Becker blades are the same hardness throughout the whole knife. So as long as you don't sharpen it with an angle grinder, I'd say you're good for a lifetime.
Perhaps even longer, if you only need to touchup the blade, instead of removing nicks and chips

i think he was implying that they are differentially hardened so he was asking how long till you got to the soft part. however they are through hardened

I think you nailed it.

Since the knives are Through hardened, there's isn't an issue. :) Use and touch up or sharpen only when needed, then use it some more. Have fun while you're doing it, that's important. ;)

Lets ask Mr. owel, With 1095 it would take exactly three thousand and two years of sharpening every day to only put a dent in it. But with 1095 cro-van you can sharpen it all you want! Like an everlasting gobb stopper.

Wow,from Al to owel these are the folks who the U S Army prints wearing instructions on gloves for.

I've never noticed wearing instructions on the gloves before. I seems it was only pointed out to those that needed it.

Back on topic: I'd say the question was answered more than adequately by all. Great OP question and great info, Thanks all!

in the words of the great owl one-twohoo-three! three licks to the center of a...wait what are talking about here?
