How many Wegner's do I really need?

A rhetorical question I know...but I'm asking myself this after a visit today to my local Spyder-shop.

I currently own a large, plain edged Wegner...a Wegner Jr. combination edge (Thanks J Smith)and a Wegner Mouse. I really like each of these knives - a lot.

So there I was at the shop, and lo and behold they have a large, combination edge Wegner (C48) in stock. Just for fun I asked to see it and picked it up; opening and closing it a few times, and admiring the perfect marriage of smooth plain-edged ATS-34 and aggressive, perfectly ground teeth.

Now it probably has something to do with the fact that I just recently acquired the Wegner Jr. with it's combination edge and the realization of just how very useful and attractive this design is on the Wegner...but I absolutely fell in love with this knife.

It is also the single most perfectly built Spyderco knife I've had the pleasure to handle. It is flawless in every respect; from the super smooth opening feel, to the lockup of the liner 1/3 of the way across with no play whatsoever in any direction, and not a single mark or scuff on any surface of the knife or blade and finally...picture perfect grind lines on the edge. My plain edge Wegner is great, but this specimen is ever nicer.

Do I sound enthusiastic? I now just have to undertake the relatively simple and by now well practiced:

"Spyder-pre-purchase-justification-process"

to seal things up and cement my resolve. I know that SMKW still has these models on sale for $59.99 U.S, and this one will cost me a bit more than that, but it is a perfect specimen. To be able to handle the knife ahead of time like this is really great, so if I give in to this temptation I will definitely buy this particular knife locally.

So fellow Spyderfans...can you help me out with the justification end of things? Dennis, are you out there?

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

Just one or maybe two. :D

If it's the right one like this one.

why ask if you know you are going to get it anyways? lol
happens to me all the time, i feel i have to get some justification and encouragement to buy a knife but i well know ahead of time that no matter what others say im still going to get it. lol

Sounds like your mind is already made up. Go for it. The Wegner is one of my favorite Spydercos, and certainly one of the most useful designs they have ever come up with.

OK guys, you caught me.

I was quite sure I should buy this knife, but since I already own the same one with a different edge I was having a little trouble with the justification process this time. But not any more, thanks to you all.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

The large Wegner is DA BOMB! (as my daughter and her stupide friends would say)
Best Spyderco ever made, if you already have the plain edge then round out the collection with the 50/50.
Enjoy!

I don't know that you can have too many. Right now I am up:

2 C48ps
2 C49ps
1 C49p
2 Mice

Ain't Wegners grand !!:D

I called and had the shop put this knife aside for me, until I can get down there to pick it up. Thanks for all your help, guys.

Jeff

Yep, it's proto #17 of 20. I've also got #3 with all black G-10 scales. The wife has one of the early mouse knives with Tim's "fish" logo's.

I carry #17 but #3 stays in the case.

Dwight,

My Mouse has the "fish" logo on it too. I didn't realize that this was an early variant, although I was aware that they don't all have this design.

You must be very pleased to own those Trakker's. Very nice indeed.

Jeff/1911.
