i just got my first spydy, i thout it to be a chinook II, turns out its the origenal chinook :( . so how much better is the newer model

I'm curious about this too. I can't even find a description of the differences. Is the blade still just over 3.5"?

well 4 1 the blade metal is different cpm440v for the chinook and cpms30v for the II. The spine is also deeper on the older model.

I think there is one more difference between Chinook and Chinook II which has been not discussed, neither here nor in the linked thread. IMHO first Chinook was designed by Mr Keating as heavy utility folder AND self defense knife. The second one is pure bred SD fighter and therefore its usability is somewhat limited. I love both of them (got only Chinook II) but I think the original one is more universal. But now you can always have a Manix if you want real user or Chinook II if you looking for fighter. The Chinook I was a bit of both.

Actually, Cliff Stamp did a review of the Chinook II and he beat the crap out of it.

Did very well, from what I understand, so it does double as SD and user.

He did, however, prefer the Manix as a purebred user.

Yeah I read it. But Chinook I seems to have stronger profile of the blade, maybe not for such vicious backcutting and thrusting but better for hard use. Cutting hard materials and twisting, the tip looks stronger also.
Manix of course is better cutter due to full flat grind. Chinook's hollow grind should cut maybe even easier but more shallow.

I wonder if Cliff ran tests on the first Chinook? I'd be curious to see that.

I can see how it can be a marriage between II and manix.
