I don't know th e model yet, besides it being a 1911, but there is a classified ad listing one for 425. that seems like a good deal, can I get some input?

depending on the model that might be okay, the basic government model should be less but then the fancy models can be quite a bit more. I had one and it wasn't bad but overall i couldn't recommend it to anyone else. for one thing it is made in the phillipines and the quality control is really spotty. you would be much better off if you picked up a springfield arms .45, you can pick up there base model for about the same price new if you look around. when i was into .45's i found a good board that had different boards by brand, the charles daly forum was quite busy, some people loved them and some hated them. and when you get rid of it you won't get much for it. good luck, ahgar

a daly 1911 would run in the $350 to $450 range for a std one, i wouldnt want one because IIRC the sights they use and are fitted for are not std 1911 sights which imho is not a good thing as if ya want to change them ya are stuck with the daly ones/gotta get the slide machined for the other ones.

i've seen a lot of lightly used/carried colt 1911s that wouldnt run much more and ya would have 2X the pistol imho.

a bud has a daly hi-power clone and while its "ok" its a long ways from a browing hi-power (or halfpower as i'm fond of saying lol). he paid $250 for it IIRC, certainly less than $300.

thanks, everybody. I've shot a variety of springfields, and I like them, so if I can pick one up for the same amount, I'll pass on the Daly.

The Taurus is a better gun for about the same money, I think the Taurus's i hve seen have exceeded the springers I have seen lately unless you get to the custom shop levels.

The S&W 1911's have been exceptional too at the next step up, I have found the 700 dollar smiths to be just flat out spectacular for the money.

Colt has slipped again, although the rep was in begging my buddy to put a few on the shelf as they claim to have done a clean sweep and returned to high quality.

I have to say the last three Kimbers that have come in have been disappointing in the fit and finish. heavy handedness in the buffing and polishing phases have left guns with non flat sides and ripples whhere none should be found.

The Smiths would be my choice for their level of money, the Taurus is pretty darn good, Outstanding for its money.
