How Much Dye Is Needed

Quick question for all of you. I'm about to start my first two sheaths to accompany two knives that I'm finishing up for Christmas presents. The knives are 8 1/2 inches overall length, and I will be making basic pouch sheaths for them. I'm using Silver Creek vegetable tanned tooling leather. I'm looking to buy some Fiebing's Leather Dye, but I'm not quite sure how much will be needed for each sheath. Is 4 ounces enough for one, or do I need more? Thanks for your help!

4 Oz. should be enough to do both sheaths, but while you are in the store, might as well pick up two just in case. You can always return an unopened container for credit or refund

Thanks, Paul. I am going to be ordering some online since no stores around me carry it. I've looked at every hobby and craft store around. No luck. Just wanted to see if I should order two right away. Thank you again.

One 4oz bottle is more than enough for 2 pouch sheaths for 8" knives. They even come with an applicator inside the box. I'm lucky that I have 2 Tandy Leather outlets in my area.

Thanks, Bonafide. The nearest Tandy is about 2 hours away from me. I wish they were located a little closer.

I just picked up a 4oz bottle of Mahogany (new color I wanted to check out) on Friday .. and did a pouch sheath for a 9" camp knife. It's used less than 1oz to fully saturate and color the pouch at full strength.
