How much force to lock open BM42

How far should I have to flex the handles on my BM42 to get the latch to close. I currently have about 1/8"-1/4" to get it latched. Seems like I would start stressing pins is this normal?

just a similar problem: while manipulating the 42 over the past few days, it seems like the knife has gotten less and more difficult to lock open. It does seem to go back and forth though. Any ideas?
