How much para-cord do you carry?

I carry 100 ft at least whenever I do anything outdoors.

friends make fun of me cause I always have cordage.

I worked for a moving company for awhile and some of the more experienced guys could really work miracles with rope.

Where is the best place to get paracord? All that I am familiar with is what I have gotten at the gun shows. Is there somewhere I can order over the net? Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil,

When you order "over the net" be sure to get the real parachute cord with the 7 inner strands and not some look-alike stuff with a completely braided innercore.

You can get it from Brigade Quartermasters it's called 550 (strength in lbs) survival cord and costs $5.99 for 100'.

This should get you on the page.

It is usually available at tent and awning companies, war surplus stores, sporting goods stores, some hardware stores, or anywhere that sells rope of most kinds.

Bagheera and Bruce
Thanks for the feedback. I have used it for years and know that there is a difference but have not known exactly how to identify the good from the not so good. This will help and once again thanks to you guys of the forum.

Anymore never less than 100 feet at a minimum and more like 200-300ft.(got diferent length cord in different bags) I'm also using 550 cord as bootlaces so ifin you need some just unwrap a chunk from your boot and presto!! However to do this I almost doubled the length of cord vs normal laces and just wrap the extra around the boot top.

50' while hunting and space/weight are a consideration. When backpacking and/or camping, 100' or more.

While hunting I generally only need short pieces for securing gear to packs and such. Backpacking or camping sometimes requires more.
