I have a $140 Chef's Choice 120 sharpener I need to make pay for itself if possible. I can easily pick up 100 - 200 knives to sharpen with very little marketing. Once it's paid for I will not seek any more work.

Do you think the average consumer will be satisfied with he edge this sharpener will put on their knives? (I am not talking about any fine cutlery here. The best kitchen knife would maybe be a $15 Victorinox, the best hunting knife maybe a $30 Buck.)

And how much should I charge? I am thinking $1.00 for up to 4", $1.50 up to 8", $2.00 up to 10", and $2.50 up to 12".

Keep in mind I am looking to pay for the sharpener, not to make a profitable business. But neither do I need to be letting a lot of money on the table.

Does the price range match the edge this sharpener will put on?

i have been sharpening knives for a long time. when i bought an ez sharp and started sharpening knives for friends they would usually give me more than what i would ask for so i didnt say anything. usually it would be $5. for a 6" fixed blade which was fair. when i bought my wheels i decided a fair price would be $1-2. for a small pocket knife $3. for a larger one. fixed blades up to 6" usually $2. and larger fixed up to 12" blades $3-4. i do not sharpen cheap pakistan knives. they arent worth my time and i usually tell the person to take that money they would pay me and go buy a good knife. in 16 years i havent raised my prices. as for the chef's choice sharpener, i dont know what kind of job it does so i cant tell you if thoes are fair prices.

The owner of my local knife shop sharpens any knife for $4/ea., which I and many others have gladly paid for the job he does. That's my 2c.

I expect your average Joe will be satisfied with the edge it'll produce, especially if it's just for a couple o' bucks. Most average Joes I know have no clue whatsoever how to sharpen a knife.

I think your prices are fair. Sounds like a machine that you drag the knife through the machine. Careful with integral knives where you may not be able to get the entire blade in the sharp
