Mods, please feel free to move this if tech questions should be posted elsewhere, and my apologies for not seeing that better location.
I'm making a specialised knife (a tool blade, really) out of O1 steel. It's my first effort, and my only experience with metal is with jewelry metals.
I think I have a vague memory that basic shaping and edge-grinding should be done before hardening/tempering, but actually sharpening to the finished state should be delayed til after because the heat involved would mess up anything that could be called an edge.
True, false, something else? Are there references I could read?
Many thanks in advance for experienced advice!
