How much would it cost and how long would it take to convert a Spyderco BG-42 Military from an open-back to a closed-back? Here is an example of someone else's.

Its an easy job if I have the right thickness material to make the one piece stand off. Otherwise the hold up is measuring it and then ordering what is needed after you approve of paying for the material cost. If titanium or Micarta or whatever was used. Easiest would be a synthetic like Micarta or G10 but titanium would work also. For that matter it could be andodized a color if one wanted.

It a lot of what I call little work with measuring to make note of hole sizes and stuff like that and also the lanyard sleeve in those knives can be problematic at times to get them to release their hold without minor damage to the G10 so again we are taking up ticks on the clock. Hard to know what it would cost without knowing the materials needed or the thickness.

it's 5/32" thick (4mm) and I'm thinking Titalium or some kinds of metal would be good. The heavier the better, I'm hoping to give it some weight. What are the choices of metal?

It really needs to be measured accurately with a digital caliper to see exactly what it is as close as possible but titanium is what you need. Both it or G10 will add weight but ti will add more. I don't have anything thick enough to use I don't think. It seems I've measured that spacer before and didn't have what was needed but I'm going to need the knife either way. I can measure it when it arrives. I have scrap and some full sheets of .158-.160 thickness titanium and if its 5/32 thats getting pretty close. I'm sure last time someone asked me though I'd have used that.

Still I just need the knife to do something like that. Its a small job compared to some but still big enough to require about a morning probably to get all my ducks in a row and knock it all out but I am busy and you may want to wait. If its your EDC knife I doubt you'll want it here for three weeks waiting to get it back. Once I catch up here in later Feb. early March it will probably work out to be less time out of your pocket if you want to check back.

I always ask that folks read post number one in my low ride pocket clip thread at the top of the page. Once you have the routine down email me at the address in that post and we can go from there if you don't mind waiting right now.
