How often do members here disassemble their backlock Spydercos to apply grease to the pivot washers?

I tend to pretty much leave mine alone until they're full of pocket lint... then I just blow them out!

Spydercos are designed to not need a disassembly to clean. I clean mine with handsoap and hot water after I get it really dirty or use it to cut up raw meat. I dry it out. Lube it when it needs using Triflo or Boker knife oil.

One time I got my endura super nasty cleaning fish and bait, so threw it into warm mild soap water for a few hours. Came out SUPER shiny, then I just blew/wipe the moisture out, oiled and worked the oil around.

Not sure if that's the right way to do it, but that's how I did it. It was the VG10 one, dont know if non-stainless will react well.

How often do I tell the Spydercrew that all their hundreds of hours of training, thousands of hours of experience, model-specific assembly jigs and torque-calibrated clutched drivers are all a complete waste because I can do just as well at home with a hardware store screwdriver?

Never. Why?

That's what it said to do in the brochure that came with my Spyderco knife. (Yeah, I read that stuff.)

I don't disassemble either.
Just wipe the blade after use, some people do disassemble and clean it.
It's not necessary though.

Whenever it looks bad or I feel like it is the honest answer. That probably translates to after a couple months of carry.

You truthfully don't need to, but also truthfully, you're never going to get it as clean without disassembling as with, and a full clean and lube job does make a difference.

If I'm carrying a knife with liners at work, then it gets broken down and cleaned every few weeks. It's not an issue with the blade, so much as the liners get rusty because water gets trapped between them and the scales.

If it's a Salt model, then it likely just gets blasted out with a water hose.

My woman gets her USFlag Q very dirty due to all the holes in the blade and handle. About once a year it gets scrubbed and put in the top level of the dishwasher.
