Right now i'm trying to decide between a boker mini stockman that 3 in. roughly closed, with clip and sheepsfoot blades. Or a boker cattle knife with the same blade selection, and a punch on the opposite end thats 4 inches. They're both double springed and same width. I would like the smaller size, but a punch seems useful, i was just wondering how often yours got used?

Do you have a photo of the cattle knife with the punch? I haven't looked at the Bokers. I find some punches are more useful than others. If the punch is sturdy and sharp, I'll use it to set or pilot a hole for nails or screws or a drill. I sometimes use them as a scraper. I don't usually do leather work.

With my GEC Harness jack, I've been using it quite a bit.

It's great for all those dirty, scraping jobs that you don't want to do with your blades that you spend time putting a nice edge on.

at least 3 times a day when I'm camping, sharp ones work great for ferro rod striking, and I use a ferro rod to start stoves.
other than that, pretty much never.

I have never used mine. Never carried either. I would never let go of my HJ though. I think they are awesome especially the punch on the GEC above that Vangaurd posted.

2-3 times a month, sometimes more.
I haven't been doing much leather work in the last year or two. Did let my belt out though! Hopefully Spring will bring it back in again!

It's kind of funny, but the last four holes I had to make in my belt were taking it in. Pen blade worked just fine.

I use them when working with my paracord goodies. Works great for loosing stuck knots!

I use the awl on my SAK every once in a while. Not "often", but enough that I'm glad I have it.

First blade I really valued. When I was a kid, we had to have a scout knife with a punch for mumblypeg.

Almost never.

On the rare occasions that I need to punch a hole in leather, I use a pliers-style leather punch tool. They make very clean and accurate holes and I keep the tool in my shop. I just never ever have the need to punch holes in leather when I'm out and about. Of all the blades on all my knives, it's among the least used and I carry an Ulster camper quite often, so it's not like I don't have it available to me.

The cap lifter/screwdriver blade on the other hand is way high on the list of frequently used non-main blade tools that I use.

Most frequently used non-mainblade tool is folding scissors though. I know that may not be manly to admit that, but I end up keeping a small SAK (which I dislike in every way possible) or small Leatherman (which I can barely stomach) for the scissors alone.

Someday, somebody is going to make a scout pattern knife with the leather punch replaced with scissors. I'd be all over that like a fly on honey.

Maybe about once a year. Maybe twice. I don't have much use fort, but it does come in handy once in a while. I'd rather have a punch than a spey blade that I have absolutely zero use for. If the punch has a nice sharp bevel like the Victorinox pioneer, thenI can use it as an auxiliary tool for scaling, cutting, striping wire. Then the punch has more use for me.
Carl.

Not often. I've got one of those leather punches with multiple punches on a rotating wheel. Just select what size hole you want and squeez the handles.

Pinnah and Ed, that's the same reason I don't use them. I have this old hand me down. It cuts perfect clean holes. I doubt I'm skilled enough to use a HJ like Charlie.
