How Often, If Ever, Do you Splurge on CRK?

Just curious. I recently spent more than what most would consider "it was worth" in a Seb 21 CGG I have been after for a while. NO REGRETS! THIS ISN"T A BUYER'S REMORSE THREAD. :p

I ask because it's something I have only done one other time, and it also was a Sebenza. Call me patient, but I just don't often spend more than "market" on something and prefer to wait for a "deal", though admittedly I've missed a boat load of knives with that policy! Anyhow, I paid it because I had always liked that particular design which (in my mind) alluded to something else that was significant to me in my life, and planned to use it often as a reminder of sorts ie: emotion, and intended use made it an easy call.

Just curious, and not looking to start any wars on actual pricing of knives - just on what, if anything, makes one choose to "go for it" on any given CRK, even if it's probably a "bad" deal.

I wait till I find a deal pop up. But I haven’t ruled out a one off model that may present itself. If I happen to like it, I’d pay a little more.

Talking other knives also not just CRK.

I don't really splurge on a CRK, but I am patient and will buy one if it is something I am looking for. I tend to favor ones that are reasonably priced rather than not.

Anymore the prices are kind of crazy on the really nice old stuff. Not sure I want to spend $2k and just have it sit on a shelf.

When the opportunity presents itself, as there's a few on my list that you don't get the opportunity to purchase very often, and if you wait on it you're going to lose it as I imagine that some others here are also on the hunt for some of the same items that I am.

When we are talking about harder to find and older CRKs, the reality is they are going to carry a significant pricing premium because they are in huge demand and are limited in supply. As a result, I think it can be very difficult to define what constitutes 'market price', especially if it is a knife that only pops up for sale once every few years. So, for stuff like that and FWIW, I just make a judgment call on what I am personally comfortable paying. If it's a knife that I might have to wait another 5 or 10 years to see again, I'm willing to pay more (or exchange more on my end in a trade, if applicable) than something easier to come by.

You can't take any of it with you when you go, and if you find a special knife that makes you happy...well...cool CRKs do make me happy.

I will pay up for something I want, beyond reason. Buy it while I can and paying some extra is no big deal. However some of the numbers today for my desired knives go beyond the joy of owning. I let too many slip when it was much easier and cheaper-story of my life

I’d like to buy numbers 2, 4 and 6 please 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍. Amazing collection and watch!!!!

And to answer the OPs question, I have pretty much narrowed down my collecting to mainly CRK, and then secondarily just a few other makers. I have a list of uniques that’ll I won’t hesitate to splurge on and sometimes I’ll buy just to add to the collection if it’s a discontinued or hard to find model.

I was at Bladeshow last year and found a Large P Sebenza in PERFECT NEW IN BOX condition with the original receipt from 1993 I believe. I splurged immediately because I knew I’d probably never see another in that condition with all the original items, box and receipt. Funny thing was that I was sitting in a glass case on the second shelf out of sight. I thought when I asked them to get it out so I could look at it that is was an early model and then I saw the “P” on the scale and could barely contain myself. Absolutely stunning example, immediately went over and talked with Tim and Anne Reeve about it and they were quite impressed especially with the original receipt.

I’ve only ever splurged for three knives. Two were Sebenzas. I’m thinking of selling the other.

There are two CCG Sebenzas I’d splurge on in a heartbeat if I stumbled across them.

More often than I should.

There is only a few CRK's id really bet the farm on. But I think im going to start slowing down "a bit".

Anybody got a Large damascus Reg forsale?

I have not splurged on anything in a while but this time last year I made way more of those buys than I would like to think about haha. That said, I have more than a couple I paid way more than I should have. Clay was fuel to that fire for shureeeeeee 🤣. Miss him!
