How often should I oil my knife to keep it from rusting?

I just got my Kershaw Leek yesterday. Fantastic knife! I know that the blade is more rust prone than my Swiss army knife, and that it needs to be oiled to keep it clean and rust free. How often should I oil it? Do I need to take the knife apart to oil the inside too, or just the blade?

By the way, I have the composite blade. Does that make any difference?

Rust should not be much of an issue with that knife, and I suspect that most folks would do very little in terms of rust prevention. I honestly never oil any of my folders, though I do wipe down my fixed blades that don't get any attention for long period of time. But it would not hurt just to wipe down your Leek from time to time with a light machine oil or WD-40 (mineral oil) or whatever floats your boat. Don't worry about it too much - just keep an eyeball on it.

I just use a (tiny, tiny) drop of mineral oil my folder (each side) once a month. (I use my EDC knife alot)

My bottle looks just like this:

But with a red end cap.

I don't oil my stainless blades, I just keep them dry. No rust whatsoever, unles you live in a really humid area.

By the way, I have the composite blade. Does that make any difference?
The inner core of the composite blade Leek is CPM D2, which has just slightly less chromium in the alloy than what is considered a 'true' stainless. So, you might want to watch it a little more closely for rust, especially if you get it wet or cut something like a piece of fruit, meat, or anything moist. But honestly just wiping it off after use and occasionally wiping it down with light oil or even just a silicone-impregnated cloth -- the kind sold for firearms and fishing reels -- should be adequate.

i wipe down my folders with some mineral oil after cuttign anythig nacidic, like fruits, other than that, just a bit of mineral oil every week for me.
