I know that with its high carbon content carbon v blades require relatively high maintainance. I live in a fairly dry climate. Is giving these blades a light coat of quality rust inhibitor every couple of months too much.not enough?
Thanks much.

you can buy paper treated to prevent rust which would be good to wrap your blades in for storage until you need them once you oil them down. you can also oil them down really well with a good oil or even a good gun grease and wrap them in plastic wrap. i would check on them monthly just to make sure they are ok. dont store your knives in the sheath which can wick the oil away and cause rust.

Only times I ever put oil on blades is when they're going into storage. Which isn't very often. Which is to say, I generally don't oil my carbon steel blades.

TuffCloth works well, or BreakFree. Be sure the sheaths won't wick moisture if you're storing them in the sheath -- either waterproof the leather (I use SnowSeal on all my leather sheaths, inside and out) or store them outside the sheath.
