You might want to post your cleaver in Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting & Identification. Good knowledgable people there should be able to ID.

.It looks late nineteenth Century and I can just make out 1886 written on the blade.
I adore big choppers - Mine are mostly new budget Chinese ones but I prefer old ones like yours.

I think the 1886 is a Patent date. You can make out “[dent]AT.“ before the date.
I found this link to the patent inventor on another website. I can’t take credit. The patent is for the handle attachment, and it was used by several knife and cleaver makers.
