How old is the Crewman knife ?

Hey guys,

I used to own a knife, that I didn't until recently even know or think was a Becker.
It looked a great deal like a Crewman/BK10, but with the flat grips like the old ones I have seen on the forums.
What I am wondering is was it a crew man or a knock off, or is it possible that my memory is playing tricks on me and that it didn't look quite as much like a crewman as I am thinking.

I know Ethan has been making knifes at least since the 80s, and I would have to say that I think I got the knife around maybe 87 88 ?

Anyone know if the Crewman even existed back then ?
Is it possible that it was just a Camillus knife that was similar in size and since the grips were the same that I am romanticizing it?

Any input would be cool, it is not a purely academic question, since I want to make sure that I wasn't lying to Moose when I told him that I used to own a Bk 10, before my collection got stolen.

I want to make sure that If I am wrong that I revise my statement, so as not to be a cheat.

Thanks guys

Sounds like you had a BK10 Crewman but with the old type of micarta scales.

Oregon's pic looks a lot like what I remember the knife looking like, but I just want to make sure I am not wrong ..lol
Would it have been in production in 87, 88 ?

probably not THAT old.

BK10 was made by Camillus

Dates are tricky :)

Lord, I am trying to think how old I was when i had that knife, 14 15 ish which would put the year at around 87 88, if that was too early then I may have had a Camillus that I am just thinkin of as closer to the 10 that what it really was ..lol
Thats very possible considering my whole collection was stolen in 1995 or somewhere near there and I am going by memory alone.

I am trying to not think about what I lost, as it makes me sick to the stomach. Mostly my Grandfathers Case XX 337-6 Q knife from the war, is what really upsets me, but I had some great users and some great WWI WWII pieces that were safe queens, and the guy probably got maybe 200 bucks for my whole collection, so he could go buy pot......Ahhhhhh Roomates. ........and and my Colman "Western" W-77 and W-75 were my favorite boot knives of all time, those things could be sharpened to lazer sharpness and the W-77 had tasted me a few times ..lol.

Anyway,

To be safe then I will say I have not owned a Becker, which gives me a great excuse to buy one.

only Becker that matches what you're saying from 1988 time period, that's pre-camillus era, around the Blackjack phase of things... they had hard chrome ones then.

like this?

later, they had a grey epoxy coat, like below, these are all Campanions:

and some BK10s for comparison, note the thumb ramps, and different nose. these are much thinner than Campanions:

as for thieves, i'd hunt the guy down find his car/truck, and have your way with it ;)

It looked a lot like 2 in from the right on the campanions but with the flat micarta grips, for some reason though I keep thinking the tip looked different.
I am pretty sure I bought it at an Army surplus store, so it may have been used and modded? I cant remember if it had the thumb ramp or not, only bigger knife that I used was my Kabar.
Mostly as a kid I was still Boy Scout camping, pocket knife and hatchet, and a small belt knife, so I never used it.
It and all my others collectors sat in my fire safe and only came out to be cleaned oiled and fondled.
I wont do that to a knife again ..lol unless its a true collectable, I am a knife user now......Still love me some hatchets and hawks though.
