How others see damascus blades?

I'm sure most of us find damascus blades interesting. But, sometimes I wonder if at a party someone needed a knife to prep some food and I offered them a Sebenza or Mnandi
with a damascus blade, would they think the blade is dirty or stained?

That's one thing about CR's Dual Finish S30V blades, they look so nice and clean.

Don't ever, ever, ever loan anyone your good knives... or your bad ones, for that manner. If they don't have one, they can use their teeth or keys or fingernails.

Good point. Although, in the situation I was think of, I would be standing next to the person.

Ok, let's say someone at a party asks me to cut the cheese. :) I whip out my small Sebenza with a stainless damascus blade. I wash the blade and
start cutting the cheese. I wonder if someone noticing the knife would they think the blade is stained, or screwed up in some way?

If they notice it at all, they may ask and you will have to explain what damascus steel is.

I've done just that on numerous occations. Most times the people there know me and are use to me having a Seb or Mnandi on me. Not that they know those knives, just that I'm a guy who carries a pocket knife. I've only been asked twice by someone I didn't know what kind of blade it was, not that they thought it was dirty or anything. They're more surprised at the cost. Then they ask "are you sure you want to use it cut this?" I just give em a....
:)
Course if someone at a party asked me to cut the cheese, I might be inclined to ask...are you sure?? Or, why??
:D
Seriously though, CRK Damascus blades are also coated with a their GunKote/Kalgard clear finish. Making the steel that much more sterile. Very clean!

I NEVER lend my knives to anyone!!

+1!! I understand the OP question but good lord man! I have made this mistake and it will never happen again. I was the guy that would hand over their knife because someone needed it. Not now! I find that it really doesn't matter who the person is from the outside or inside most people just don't know how to handle someone else's knife. In your situation with cutting some food I wouldn't be too concerned. I have had people scrape, pry and use the tip as a screwdriver! They only got in an about one swipe of the blade to do those various evil tasks but still once is all it takes.

Anyway off the rant. As to the cheese I think you would be okay. Just watch where they set it down.

Oh and to the question....I think stained. They ask you if it is stained. You say no it is damascus. They start asking questions and you have a full blown history lesson on your hands.

Yeah, unless they are a knife nut as well, no way in hell I let anyone else handle my knives. Two reasons, legal liability and potential damage to my knife that they would probably not pay for.

Meeee neither. Last time I did, I came back to see some J.O. using my vg10 calypso jr as an icepick...full overhead swings!!! Don't lend your knives.

If the presumptive knife borrower is someone I don't want to upset, I'll offer to cut whatever it is for them.

The only person I ever hand my sebbies to is my wife, and at that I always open and close it for her. Other than that, hands off my knives!!!
