How picky are you about your knives?

Here is my Radio knife the day I received it. Notice the chip in the bone at the bottom? Would something like this bother you? I bought this to be a user and it hasn't left my pocket since I got it. Personally, I couldn't care less. What about you?

Chipped bone? I think I would probably have sent it back. These knives are pretty expensive, and for the money I wouldn't expect defects like that.

If its a user no, the bone will smooth out over time. But if it was a more expensive custom that I planned on just as a safe queen, yes i would send it back.

Wouldn't bother me a bit. After all, it is a pocket knife, not the Mona Lisa.

If its a user, no problem.in fact its already pre broken in. Sometimes I wish some of my safe Queens, had a flaw, then I would be able to use it. :p

If I did that it would be charictor but for the money U spent I would want her MINT from the factory:mad:

I'm only picky at a certain price point. Most of the Ontario Knives I get have some inconsistencys with them, but Its just something I expect from the QC at OTKC, but every time Ive had an issue Karen and Dan Maragni has personally took care of me, I love Dans work:thumb up: . With my BRKT, Cold Steel Japanese line (anything San Mai lll), Al Mar Knives, I Inspect with a fine toothed comb. I had a grind issue with a Spartan Blades Harsey Difensa, the grind was off on one of the sides, some it wouldn't bother, but I called Mark, one of the owners, and spoke to him personally on the phone can he wanted me to send it back until I was happy! Blade came back perfect. So yes, at a price point I DO/DONT mind.

there's a chip at the butt of the knife and another halfway down the spine just ahead of the pin.

On a $50 knife, minor defects don't really bug me.
Above $90 I start getting critical, unless it's already heavily discounted or described as a second.
I have no problem buying seconds for users.

That in particular wouldn't bother me, but a crack..... a piece missing...... for a ~ hundred dollar knife, I'd send it back because I think for that money, it shouldn't be. I don't really see an issue with the picture posted though.

@1066vik I didn't even notice the one ahead of the pin. It is VERY small. Good eye. I could have done that one myself in the past few weeks. Cracks would bother me. These don't...

:)
the bone flake wouldn't bother me as it looks smooth and sanded -- natural materials and all.

Not a problem for me---I actually sanded the but end of mine---that's just a head start

As said already, depends on the price point. A chip like that on a GEC no big deal. On a custom knife in the hundreds? Not acceptable.

In this case a crack would be bad. A small chip like this? Nope. Carry it and enjoy.

If a knife I purchase is intended to be used than I'm not real picky but they must be functional. If the knife is going to be a collection piece than I'm usually going to be looking for good f&f if it's post early 70's.

I tend to agree. If it's an every dat carry knife then no issues with it. It just looks loved. If it's for collecting and display then probably I'd call the retailer and complain.
