Hello all
New member. Quick intro, diehard buck user. I can't imagine hunting, camping, hiking etc with anything else.
I am curious regarding three knives I have and there possible rarity. The first is a 501 esquire, esquire because it is a 75-77 with the exposed rocker pin before they hid them. The other two are a 119 and 120 both with just a inverted BUCK stamp and the guard has two aluminum spacers and two leather(pretty sure leather not micarta, they are brown not black) spacers, pommel has 2 leather and one aluminum. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

Rarity is a relative word. Concerning the 501 with exposed rocker pin, I've seen 3 within the last 2 weeks, one NIB, but that's just luck of the draw. You have not given enough information (or pictures of the 119 or 120) to say. If the are truly leather spacers they would be earliest production barrel nut and rare... but you say they are brown and not sure.... fiber spacers were used up until the change to micarta in 1969. Fiber spacers run quite a range in color from dk brown to red. Fiber spacer knives are certainly older and less common, certainly not rare. All 3 of your knives turn up with some regularity on the auction site. How's that for a non answer?

Fiber it is, and in that condition the rarity/value goes down. They can be found on the auction sites almost any month of the year. Its just a matter of looking.Your can be restored to almost a new condition and the value would go up, but its still not an overly "rare knife".

sea, Welcome. You just need more studying and education on Buck knives. The spacers are not leather, you'll have to see some leather ones then you'll know the difference. They are indeed 'RED' (not brown) hard fiber spacers made from gasket material. Which I don't see them at knife shows in a neighboring states area. One will see them on the 'bay'. So, rare to me. Still, yours has been badly mauled, perhaps the 119. Sad as this takes away most of it's value. Then your Esquire to me is rare as I don't see those either in my area. Yet, the bay has them. If it's in good shape, not reground and has the box and all paperwork. This would increase it's worth. Just stick with us, enjoy the ride and learn. DM

Thanks for all the info everyone. I assume you mean restore by sending it for the "buck spa"?
