How reliable is the retention on the stock izula sheath?.

I was just looking at my new izulas sheath, and I noticed the knife is held by 2 plastic bumps.
I imagine that after awhile these bumps will get worn down from putting the knife in and out of the sheath.
Right now it's rock solid but how long can I expect it to stay that way?.
It kinda worries me especially if I'm running, or riding my mountain bike and I might not notice it fallout till it's to late.
Thanks in advance.

I've got custom kydex on 2 of mine but the 3rd one is in it's stock sheath for over a year and it's still locking in solid as a rock. If anything it's a lot more solid in retention than my kydex sheaths. You're good to go!

I wouldn't worry about the bumps wearing down as much as I worry about them being sliced down. You have to be careful reinserting the knife in the sheath or the blade edge could cut those nubs up.

all Factory Izula sheath have the 2nubs ,I had mine in the factory sheath since the Izula were 1st introduced and w/o any issues !

Thats awesome.
Thanks guys for the help, I'm really looking forward to trying it out this weekend.

Izula #45 carried upside down on a mercharness and used lots for over two years and it is secure as ever.

I've used mine a ton and have not had one issue with it. I wouldn't worry about it failing.

Ditto. I have one of the first run, and the sheath is just as good as when I got it.

I guess I'm jumping on the bandwagon here. I have had since June (not long) but I have carried upside down by the sheath & never had an issue with the knife falling out.

I've had my Izula for over a year and use it as my edc. It get's a ton of use everyday and the retention on the sheath is still damn good. I wouldn't worry about it one bit if your thinking about buying one.

Snapped a few pics for you today. One is a black Izula in custom kydex for pocket carry. It has jimping on the front of the sheath for snapping the blade out while inside the pocket.

The other is a black Izula in custom kydex sheath with thumb jimping but with a slightly more squared off top. You'll notice a lanyard on the knife it's matched to. This is all that hangs out of my pocket. When this lanyard is pulled the sheath rises in the pocket and snags firmly against the back edge of the pocket and releases the knife and the sheath drops back down in the pocket. This a very fast deployment set-up.

The 3rd Izula is a stripped and scotch brited version which is my main working Izula. Notice that it isn't in custom kydex. I could have a 3rd sheath made since it wobbles in the other two kydex sheaths because of the slimmer profile, but the superb retention of the stock - enclosed sheath locks it firmly in place.

Overall I'm saying that the stock Izula sheath really snaps on solidly. You can depend on it.

I've had my izula since december and half of that time it's been riding horizontal on my belt. Used at work sheathing and resheathing all the time and its still locking up solid.

Good post.

Here is an idea I came up with reading your post. With your pocket carry set up, take a piece of cord, tie it to something like this

And clip it to the inside of the pocket, of course this would work best with pockets that are sown in and cant be pulled out like its elephant ears. But then the sheath does not have to snag on clothing.

Just a thought.

Any chance of seeing a picture of this on your waist??

I've jogged miles w/ mine worn as a neck knife and where it 12 hours a day during busy er shifts running back and forth between patients and its locked in there nice and tight. As was mentioned before just take care when resheathing not to slice the plastic "bumps" holding the knife in.

I actually started using suspender clips like that about eight or nine years ago. Works great!

I don't think the clip you show will have enough retention to pop an Izula reliably, it looks like a cord guide for a wireless headset.

Agreed it is not the right clip, but I honestly did not know what it is called in English....my mind left me.
