How screwed am I???

Have a Handspring Visor Deluxe.

It was working fine, but for some un-explained reason (brain fart) I did a soft reset.

Now, the thing is locked on the "PALM Computing Platform" screen. Won;t go off.

Tried taking batteries out, put back in, came back on.

Here's the big wrench.

I had this sync'ed to my work computer, and not my home. I got laid off last year, so have not synced since (the PDA dammit...LOL).

Any suggestions??

I would hate to lose the hundreds of addresses/phone info. Games can be replaced.

I assume that after removing and replacing the battery that the unit no longer has your contacts in it? If so, sorry to say, you are fooked.

Unless I misunderstand the procedure you took...

Not as familiar with the Handspring models as those made by Palm. Is there a reset switch on the back of the unit, accessable with a pin or paper-clip?

I would strongly sugggest contacting the company. You should be able to google their homepage.

You;re probably screwed, but you never know. You can take the batteries out of a Handsrping for about ten minutes and still have all your data inside. There's a little capacitor inside that will preserve memory for around that long, so that's not a problem. Probably your only way out of this mess is a hard reset, though, which means bye-bye data.

In a completely unrelated note I have a handspring cradle for SCSI that I'd let you have for the shipping. Bought it then upgraded all computers to USB's so it was barely used.

Thanks, I've got all the cradles.

If I'm not mistaken, Palm bought them out. Sad because I always thought they had a better product.

I'll try seeing if Palm has support for the old products.

Thanks germs.

You've probably lost the data. Unless you had it all backed up to a memory module. My visor stopped working with the module. My data was happily ensconced on the module but I couldn't get it to the visor. The visor would work without the module.

www.gethitech.com has lots of used parts and instructions for various repairs. Either you can buy parts or sell yours to them.

You are likely screwed. Sounds like a you need to do a hard reset. I know it is kind of like closing the barn door after the horse rtan out but, if you have an SD card, I suggest you get the Back-up buddy program and back up your entire Palm at lest once a week. Try posting your question at the palminfocenter forum, they may be able to help you.

With help from their Help Desk, did a "system reset", which bypasses any blocks and frees up the device.

I then eliminated all games and BS I had. Gonna d/l the sync software and sync up to save in case I'm not so lucky the next time...LOL

Thanks for everything guys.

Fluggin 'lectronics.... :o
