Given the finest Metal, the most refined method, just how sharp can a conventional knife be.

This BRK&T Bravo1 can tree top hair, shave news print from the face of todays paper. It slices ciggarette paper. Wacking paper tubes in half is jokingly easy. Pulling the edge along my finger nail yields not even the hint of a drag or a catch... Even under the best light you can not see the edge with the naked eye. Its made from A2. I washed a dried the rags I use to clean the paper with alcohol 5 times to make sure there was no grit larger than the paper grit....

When is the quest over? Seriously... am I done? I polished this knife today on worn but very clean 60,000 grit paper for three hours. One slow considered stroke at a time. I am unwilling to even test it again...to much work to keep it at this level.... nearly instantanious dulling from optimum.

I am sorry I wanted a thread about the theoretical limits of metal sharpness.
Not another tired how to sharpen in this forum.

I think the general forum is a closer fit for a discussion on how sharp a knife can be as opposed to how to do it. I don't want to hear all about everybody's sharpmaker again... I am going to close it while I figure out a way to ask the question that won't get moved around.
