How sharp is my CT???

A slightly odd quesiton.....

I have resharpened my CT using the sandpaper/mousepad method, and as always the CT becomes nice and sharp. But lately I haven't been able to make it shaving sharp, it does not shave the hair of my arm as it used to. But on the other side, I am able to slice pieces of a hanging newspaper page with no effort, so the CT is not dull!!!
I have used 1200 grit sandpaper and polished the edge to a "mirrorlike" finish this time.
Is this another type of "sharpness"? And does this have an advantage over the "shaving edge"? Or have I just done a poorly job this time?
I have read some threads here on the forums on similar topics, but would really appreciate if some of you could share your opinions and expertise on the matter.

Slicing newspaper is fairly low as a test of sharpness, it just takes a sharper blade to shave. If you can push cut the paper you can generally shave.

Cliff, thanks for your input. If I penetrate a sheet of newspaper, and pull the paper the CT will cut "it's way out" of the sheet, and it's a clean cut. But perhaps I just have to find my mouspad and sandpaper and do a better job.... And I thought I was getting good at sharpening convex edges......

Being able to cleanly slice paper is a feat that most can't achieve so you are doing well, it just takes more work to get to push cutting paper. Once you pass that the next challenge is to try the same with paper towels which are much harder to cut still, then tissues if you can get past the paper towels.

Finally, a guage in which to judge my sharpening skills. Looks like I have some work to do. Thanks Cliff. I think. :D

Thanks for keeping my selfconficence up, Cliff! I like all my knives shaving sharp, and I don't give up until they are all shaving! (Well, exept an old Gerber BMF which I've given up on... )

All the sharpening "tips and tricks" I've gotten here on the forum has helped a lot. But I think I'll order one of those leather strops with these mysterious compounds on them :D - have read about them here on the forum, but have never seen them in shops here in Norway.

Once you get past tissue, you'll need special training and a radiation suit. Atom splitting can be dangerous without the right skills/gear.
