How should I feel...?

Buddy at work asks me to sharpen up his Schrade "Beast". I work it over with some diamond action to even out the edge bevels then it spends some time on the Spydie Sharpmaker.

Came out nice and sharp.

He takes it home. While watching T.V. he decides to use it to scrape a splinter out of his finger. His dog jumps up, the knife slips and he carves out the area behind his knuckle. Darn near a day later his finger is still leaking. I think he needs stitches.

Should I feel bad for this dude or proud of the sharpening job?

When he told me I began laughing maniacally....so I guess that tells me something..:D

Did you tell him it was going to be sharp, and that he should go light with his knife until he gets used to it?

WHenever I sharpen a knife for someone who doesn't know knives, I tell them the above. When using dull POS knives for cutting, people get used to using a lot of pressure and not really being mindful of the edge. Going from very dull to sharp requires a change in technique.

Accidents are a part of life. That is why they are accidents! I caution folks, but things happen. As far as the laughing at a tragedy, that seems to be a problem with human nature. We deal with occurences in all sorts of ways. One is laughing at someone being hurt. Hollywood makes a living out of this. Tell your friend your sorry about the accident. Be more careful in the future and get a Tetnus shot.
Feel bad, no. You did him a favor. He made the mistake of not thinking
about proper tools for proper jobs. Explain the laughter, if you need too. A true friend will understand.

I'd actually feel pretty good...

That means, u did a good job...:D

Give the dumb-ass a couple of Band-Aids (for next time) and call it even.:).

maybe a tweezer would work for splinters I ve heard those crazy tings are good at removing hard to get items ^^

You sharpening the knife and his dog jumping on him have nothing to do with each other and in no way reflects on your proper conditioning of his tool!

I'd lent a sharpened CRKT Peck to a friend who was looking to buy one for himself, he put it in his pocket, and while carrying it around it opened in his pocket,(this never happened to me) he stuck his hand in his pocket to get the knife and sliced his middle finger from the tip to thesecond knuckle. As if this wasn't bad enough, the knife being so sharp all he felt was the prick, not the slice, so what's he do? He puts his hand back in his pocket, and cuts his pointer finger to the first knuckle.

I felt bad cause he had to get stiches in both fingers, since then he has never asked to see or borrow one of my knives.

I lost one,(potential Knife Knut) I think.:(

I'd say, impressive sharpening job. Now he knows to be more careful, but be sure to warn anyone else whose blades you sharpen. As long as you've provided the proper warning, anything else that happens is on them.

Well...he did not mind me laughing and I suppose he will be able to laugh about it later.
He seemed more shocked at how easily the damage was done.

I will make sure to give a warning next time.:D
