Does anyone know why the chinese bladesmiths and blacksmiths use a crowned anvil face, like the crown on a railroad rail anvil.
Thanks,
Jon

I don't know that all Chinese smiths do....but the reasoning is to draw thick stock faster and avoid curling while being drawn. It is the same reasoning as the upper and lower dies on a power hammer both being curved. The bick/horn on a regular western pattern anvil is there for the same purpose.
