I am in a need of a nice bowie knife....dont have funds for a custom bagwell etc...so Im looking for something I can aford. Are there any alternatives in that price range as Im looking for old style bowie knife.ps.(i dont like looks or handles of ka bar or ontario bowies as im looking for smtg more traditional). The blade should be usable for both combat and utility camping tasks......all opinions welcome:)

Never had one but in all seriousness it's probably more than likely more than strong enough. A lot of people hate on the cold steel videos but it's not hype and I'm pretty sure the bowie would be no different.

I have several. It is a quality knife. The IWB sheath is one of my favorite factory bowie sheaths. The tang shoulders are radiused, the one piece guard/bolster is machined to match and fits very tightly. The falsely sharpened edge on all mine will actually cut you out of the box. Not a razor blade, but definately not dull. The handle is a little shorter than I like, so I re-handled one.

Maybe look for an Ontario Bagwell if you like traditional. More of a dedicated fighter though. Definately not up to snuff with the Laredo for heavy utility.

I have one of the old Carbon V models and it is a very good blade. I prefer the sabre grip type handle more than the coffin shape however for it produces more whip to the tip on extension, and when chopping.

Very good blades for the price. And the sheath is even quite good and functional as well.

Back clip on mine is very sharp which is proper in a bowie.

Still a custom Southwest bowie is on my to get list.
