Hi all.
I'm a new member.I'm looking for a folding knife for myself. I will use for:
1. Camp: Cutting wood in a some cases, chopping tree to the emergency shelter building - that sort of thing (not planning on doing so, but just in case).
2. Hunting: Cutting meat\cutting fabric \ leather \ tires etc ... stabbing a big animal ribs :D
3. Self-Defense: Security is not good where I live.:grumpy:

I had to find out for some time and plan to select ZT 0560. I like this designed. But I don't know how strong of ZT 0560 ? I don't see any video or topic to talk about the abuse of ZT 0560.I did not intend to abuse it but I want to know can I do it when needed?
I have also examined a ZT 0300. It is a beast. But I do not have big hands. I will select it if 0560 can not do the above tasks.
Please help me choise that one.;)
Sorry about the wording .My english is not good.:( Thanks!

ZT 0560 is known to be very strong. Another option for less money is the ZT 0200 or the Benchmade Adamas.

ZT 0560 is a great strong knife.

I prefer the design on the ZT 0550.

The ZT could likely handle the tasks you mentioned.
It's really not much smaller than the ZT 0300 though. In length at least.
The ZT 0300 is wider and more beefy.

Either knife would be a great choice.
I've owned both and either would be an excellent knife.

The ZT line in general are great knives for hard use and are all very good at it.

I just want ZT0560 or ZT0300.
Can ZT0560 chopping/batoning tree with this strong when I need (only rare cases) ?

The 0560 can Baton.
Though Fixed Blades are better for this..
I've never seen it cut down a tree though.

I would never trust a titanium frame lock for those kinds of hard use. People usually see the thick piece
of titanium, but neglect to realize that the thinned out portion is what makes it weak.

Anyone who has ever seen batoned/chopped with ZT0560?

I haven't chopped, dont see a need to test it.

I have tested it's lockbar by holding it in a vise and batoning. Didn't fail nor did I notice anything different in the locking, nor blade play.
I doubt it would fail, but as always hold the knife by the handle without any limbs in the way of the edge.

Just have a small hatchet available. No matter how strong the ZT is, it's still a folding knife. Frame locks are not the strongest lock types by a fair margin to begin with.

Batoning should be easy. I went through a couple of logs on my Spyderco Endura. Just unlock the knife first, and then kind of pinch the blade and smack it through. That way, there's no stress on the lock. But you still have to be careful, and the blade might end up warped or cracked if it's batoned too hard. And also make sure your fingers are clear in case you smack hard enough that the knife closes.

EDIT: It's still a terrible idea, and your pivot will probably die. For me, nothing happened, but the wood did split fairly easily, and I went with the grain. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's necessary though. For me, I did this during a snow camping trip where it had snowed and everything was wet and it was cold and night and I was tired and not really wanting to go hunt tinder at night. I was half expecting to break the knife actually.

Thank you for the answer. So I understand that ZT0560 can hard use when i need a emergency shelter.

Honest question...

How often have you needed to chop down trees with a folding knife to build an emergency shelter?

I've never done so.But I want my EDC knife can do it when I get lost in the jungle.

"When" you get lost? Try not to get lost. :)

Seriously though, I wouldn't want to be relying on a folder to do my wood processing in a 'survival' situation if I could possibly have a fixed blade knife instead/as well. Fallkniven F1/S1/A1, ESEE-4, Bark River Bravo/Aurora, Becker BK 2/7/9/15/16/17. I'd take any of them over a folder in that scenario, even something as tough as a ZT (love my ZT 0200). Track down a Bahco Laplander folding saw as well - cheap and lightweight.

IF you know you are going to the jungle, bring your ZT. But also bring a fixed blade. ozgooner has listed several that would work very well. Personally, if I know I were going into unfamiliar territory for a hike, I would bring a fixed blade along with a folder.

You don't just get lost in the jungle going from point A to B. I understand wanting something reliable, But let's not forget reality.

I have done some light chopping with my 560 doing yard work. Sounds to me like you might want to carry a medium pocket knife and a capable multi-tool like the leatherman super tool 300.
