I need to know how thick the wood is on a Katana sheath,,,

I also need to know how much wiggle-room do I give it?..

I was thinking of just laying the Katana down on top of the section of wood, then traceing around it, but how much space do I add?..1/16 inch all the way around the blade,,,,more?

thanks for the link,,,the photos on that site are loading right now, so I will spend a moment and tell you whats Im doing...

Im useing Wally Hayes video as a guide to make a Katana, but he does not say very much about how to make the sheath,,,,He holds one up to look at, but I could not really make out the size and thickness of the side walls.

The way Wally teaches is that you use 3 sections of 1/4 inch wood. You use one section as the middle,,,on it you trach around the katana and cut that part out,,,,then glue it to the top and bottom 1/4 inch sections and are done.

but last night when I was traceing around my blade onto the middle wood, I didnt know if Im meant to make a little wiggle room for the blade?...

I also didnt know how thick to make the walls of the middle section ,,,,I made mine 1/2 inch and I just dont like the effect of the finished sheath,,,,,too wide,,,

But I didnt know if I could cut wood that already only 1/4 inch thick....

I traced around the knife to give me the inside cut mark,,,then I took a compas and moved over 1/2 inch and traced the inside line drawing a line a 1/2 over to become the Outside cut mark....

You end up with a very thin "U" shaped peice of wood that serves as the middle of the sheath where the blade lays,,,,

well, basically a saya is nearly a pefect circle of a cross section id say 1" or 7/8" by 1 1/2" the cross section should be about the size of your seppas. it should have a snug fit on the habinaki, and the blade shouldnt rub against the inside of the saya,(the perpose of the habinaki is to help it fit the loose saya) if your blade provides the friction to hold the blade in the scabbard in you will have a very scratched sword after a little use. expesially if your sword is differencially heat treated.
