How thick is the SAK Farmer? So far I haven't found an answer...

Could someone help me out?

The wife is getting me one for our anniversary next Thursday, Wednesday, hmmm have to look that up.

Thanks, Brian

I don't know exactly how thick they are, but it will fit inside an Altoids tin if that helps.

Thanks, I know its a popular knife, I have never owned a SAK before, and the alox editions just look good.

Is the saw any good by chance, I can't say I will use it but you never know.

The saw is great :)

The Victorinox saws were one of the major attractions of the knives for me. I used them to trim many a broken branch with them and even did some carpentry work.

I should add, I have a red Farmer in my pocket right now. I've been carrying it ever since I got it.

Good to know, I used my leatherman wave saw a few weekends ago to trim a few branches around my ladder stand, forgot the saw in the truck 300yrds away.

You will find the saws on Farmer and Wave are very similar.

Same length and thickness. Farmer slightly narrower blade. Wave teeth slant backwards slightly; Farmer teeth are upright. Of course, the Farmer blades don't lock.

(I just took them both out to look. :))

The Farmer rocks it's the knife I use the most. Hundreds of dollars worth of blades and the cheapest knife I own is the one I use the most. I gave away my Wave after getting it.;)

The Farmer is a great knife. I've got two of them. One is in my outdoor backpack and the other is in my EDC rotation.

Is the farmer thicker than the Cadet? I currently carry a Cadet as part of my EDC, and would love something with a saw, as long as it is comparable in width.

EDIT: Disregard. Just checked the picture thread at the top of the page, and there is a pic with the Cadet next to the Farmer. Looks like the Farmer has one extra layer to it over the Cadet.

Thanks anyway.

That one extra layer can be deceiving. The tools on the Soldier/Farmer are quite a bit thicker and more robust than what's on the Cadet.

Personally I much prefer the hand Ergos of the Soldier and the Farmer to the Cadet . The Cadet feels too thin for serious power and control . YMMV !

The Cadet is very nice for EDC. It is small and thin and suitable for a lot of cutting tasks. But for heavier cutting tasks, the Solder or Farmer would be a better choice, in my opinion. Their scales are thicker and longer, the tools are also larger than on the Cadet.

A thickness comparison:

Cadet - 8 mm
Soldier - 11 mm
Farmer - 14 mm

Bout the smallest I find comfortable and precise is the Soldier , anything smaller than that ( except my Rambler ) is miniturized beyond the point of utility ( for my mitts ) !
