I just got a SHe in trade, and am curious about it.
It has the Busse THICK micarta handle slabs; the grip is about 0.96" thick!

It seems thicker in the blade too, than my previous SH, since I really had to push it into my SH CG Rowe sheath. Using digital verniers I get about 0.268" at the spine just ahead of the handle (above the talon hole). My DSJ measures at 0.226.

This would have to be stock thicker than 1/4"??? What is everyone else's SH blade thickness?

Thanks,
Rob

Mine are all at pretty much 1/4. I don't have a micrometer handy but the drafting ruler says 1/4 pretty much on the dot.
Four of them are from the same batch but the other two aren't. I wonder if it just has a heavy coating on it. Who knows. Maybe one of the hogs will chime in with something different.

I got it with the thicker handles, so I don't know the co$t...
What do your blades actually measure at?

Oops, forgot to mention, when it was re-handled, it was also bead blasted (double cut?) so the is NO coating on it, that is the steel measurement...:D

Well I tell ya what,:D if it bothers you that much just send it to me and I'll make sure that the overweight Steel Heart gets treated with respect. ;) Just because SH-E's a little thick doesn't mean you have to post things on a forum. Geesh. :p

Maybe I will...
I got it to be a user...:grumpy: now maybe I'll have to trade it for someting beat up...:D

No, no, no. You have to keep that one and get one to beat. :D Then the only problem you'll have is decided what to grab when you hit the field.
I know that my older straigh handled Steel Hearts are thicker than 1/4. But all my E handles including the Natural Outlaws are all 1/4.
Are you just wondering cause it won't fit the sheath?
I do have one SH-E that has a more dramatic drop at the tip. It seems there are little variations here and there with all of them. The only ones that acutally match each other completely are the 4 I bought from the same batch at the same time. But even the Natural Outlaws I bought the same time are different from each other. Slightly different sharpening lines, slight difference in micarta.
Post a pic if you can. I'd like to see a BB SH-E. My straight handled SH's are bead blasted.
Enjoy your new toy.

Mike

No, I am wondering because it looked and felt thicker. I like it!:D

Rob

Jerry does have .27 stock and thicker. My one and only SH-E Desert is .25, all my SHSH's are over .27 up to .31. Guess you got one made from the thicker stock. Makes for a nice heft doesn't it? Same deal with my older SHBM's, all are considerably thicker than my Desert E BM, at .268 up to around .30.

Nice score!
