How many would prefer to see a 3/16" Assault Shaker and how many like the fatty 1/4". Obviously the 1/4" is not as practical for most chores such as slicing but it sure does feel good in the hand!

Hmm...could be nice! But I'd love to see a hollow ground, satin finished 1/4" version with BAT!

That would be like my pepper shaker, only fat! Hmm, 3/8 sounds cool to me. Deep hollow grind. That sounds like a nightmare to work with.

How about a 3/8" handle that tapers down to a 3/16" blade.

Feels like a tank in your hand and slices like a HKTB (hot knife through butter)!

  • Coated handle
  • Flat ground, zero edge, satin or DCBB blade
  • Custom cardboard sheath
:D

those zero edges scare me...

haivng a 3/8" handle and a 3/16" blade would a production nightmare, but it would be awesome...

3/16" !

The only reason I have yet to purchase one is becuase it is 1/4" stock. With a blade that short and narrow, 3/16" is plenty thick as is.

BTW. I went with 3/16" too. I feel that the knife really should be able to be used for small cutting tasks as well as defense. I might even like to see it thinner like the AD .150!

A bit of paracord would make it feel nice in the hand.

I have a 1/4" desert AS that Jan Vervoorst did a sharpening number on and it slices almost as well as my hollow ground Pepper Shaker! It is so sharp, I am scared of it!

It is in the safe right now and it has my Badgers and an Argonne Assault backed into a corner.

yeah, mine had the edge ground higher and it slices really well.
i just got access to a blast hood and i'm sandblastin mine on monday.
practiced on my ct friday...pretty idiot proof(up my alley!)
i'd take a 3/8ths" shaker.
but i'd take 2 .150" thinfi ones.
wouldn't make no never mind once wrapped. :D :D

Have you ever held one? About the last thing it's good for is defense. Really tiny, no solid grip. I say keep it at 1/4". With a blade that short you're not "slicing" anything, you're cutting. Plus it's nice to have the thickness for prying.

Matteo-

If the kuboton was designed for self defense then the AS will excel.

The new tanto looks great, but truth be known, it would be safe to assume that there are more good Samaritans sportin assault shakers on the way back to the car after that 10:30pm showing ends.

Besides, to be honest the knife wasn't designed at 1/4" to slice or cut. It was designed to puncture.

I just thought there should be a thinner version for maximum usefulness available for a more utilitarian implement. However, because I too am fond of the feel of the 1/4” ideally, there should be 2 options available.

Progunner, thanks for the kind words. Folks, I too have found that putting a good edge on the Assault Shaker can be pretty tough. The Desert AS that Progunner is referring to took probably a good day to sharpen to this point, it's a symmetrical convex edge profile. All my AS have that symmetrical edge and while it is correct that it takes some time to get the edge right in the beginning, once it is sharp I wouldn't want to trade the 1/4" for anything.

with its full grind, isnt it close to being the same geometry as the 1/4" thick killer bee? (minus the full thickness area near the spine)
