I’m in the process of making a grinding guide for my plunges. All is milled, pinned and screwed. I have carbide plates to attach yet and was wondering what is the best way to go about this. Thanks, Mike

Epoxy is your friend for this....One thing I do is use Vaseline on the guide parts where I don't want to have Epoxy. A very thin film applied by a Q-Tip will eliminate issues with parts you don't want stuck together.

You won't be able to braze carbide to aluminum. You can use epoxy, but remember that heat will destroy the epoxy bond.
Better to use steel than aluminum, and you can braze steel.

Bill, agree about the steel, but there are brazing rods for aluminum that work at 775F, if they will bond to carbide, I don't know, but it is possible (if difficult) to braze aluminum. You could also try a low temp (400-500F) silver bearing solder.

There are rods to weld aluminum to aluminum, but not to carbide.
Silver-bearing solder won't work, either.

I has a couple epoxied carbide pieces separate from stainless (B.B. guide) and used gorilla glue to reattach them. They have been rock solid since.

Thank you fellers, gonna try the epoxy route today. Brazing isn’t in the cards for me right now. I do grind post heat treat, with a porta mist, so maybe heat build up is moot. We be seeing shortly.
