hello everyone, i am hopefully upgrading my edge pro and stropping routines, but am unsure about the use of HA Diamond spray .5 micron. i want to use it on the large stropman strop, and C.O. semi paste .5 micron on the other side. firstly does the diamond spray work well on leather strops? secondly since both abrasives are .5 micron does it make sense to use the 2 together as i am thinking to do? (1 abrasive per side ) i will also be making my own strops for the edge pro using handamerican honing leather and edge pro blanks, as well as 1 balsa blank. the pastes and spray seem to me to be superior to the crayon type compound. hopefully you can help me to not make expensive mistakes, thanks in advance.

HA diamond spray is pretty simple to use, always make sure to spray at a further distance than you think is right. 12+ inches away would be best as to let the spray completely atomize in air before hitting the strop. It helps to coat the surface evenly and prevent moisture build up on the strop surface.

After that I usually let dry for a minute or two then its good to go.

Depending on the surface the compound will also work differently. Hard surface strops like balsa wood and MDF will make the compound cut coarser and faster while a soft strop like leather will produce a finer scratch but cut at a slower pace. Personally I like HA cow hide and balsa wood when using HA diamond sprays, its where I've always seen the best results.

The chromium oxide will be best used on carbon steels after the use of .5 micron diamond. It will smooth out the tooth of the diamond and make for a breathtaking level of sharpness.

For storage keep out of sunlight and at room temp. Shake well before use.

Yes the Diamond Spray does work well on leather. I use both the .50 and .25 on leather with very good results. Since both are .50 micron, and you have some concern from trial and error, you will find that each one can have a different result depending on the steel of the knife. I feel that the diamond works faster then the CO for the harder steels. I like to wipe the edge before going to another stropping compound. I also keep the different compounds from coming into contact with each other so when I store the strops in a drawer I keep the leather from touching.
With my edge pro I have used the .05 & .25 on surgical tape attached to a blank.
You should get some great edges with the set-up you will be using.

thanks you so much, this is why i began this thread, my thoughts were very different than your experience. i was going to use the spray very close so as to not spray surrounding surfaces, so what do you do to control collateral misting? i will be making both an HA strop for my edge pro, and using the spray on a regular strop, how will i know when enough is enough, i have a tendency to over do it sometimes, i have always been a more is better kinda guy buy i want beautiful edges, not overly aggressive cutting. thanks for your help.

the surgical tape idea is brilliant, i might just save my leather for something else!, so you would not suggest using the 2 different compounds on a double sided strop one on either side? thanks for your help.
