How do you prefer to care for your factory leather sheath,
also is there treatments you DO NOT reccommende?
I am thinking for nice Scandi knife style sheathe.
Thank you
Martin

I do not reccomend oil, unless applied very sparingly, this tends to make the leather floppy and stain things. Use a nice (wax or paste) leather treatment. My favorite is the Montana Pitch Blend brand leather dressing, smells nice and seems to keep the leather from getting stiff without making it too soft like oil would.

Your best plan is to go into any good tack shop and ask them to show you their range of leather care products. Find the most expensive saddle care product they have and buy it. Generally you get what you pay for with this stuff. (Not always, but usually.)

There are some very good creams around that, applied sparingly, will keep your leather in good condition. You should be aware that some leather care products MAY change the colour slightly of some leathers.

I've cared for my horse saddles and tack for years using Lexol brand to clean and condition, and works great on sheaths too. Main thing is to keep a good conditioner working for you on your leather goods. Look for Lexol products at Farm..Tack..or Hardware stores, and just follow directions. Keep sweat out of your leather...and keep it conditioned...you'll always be in good shape then.

Pure lanolin works well, and also provides good protection for tool steel blades.
