I just picked up a benchmade 810 with the m4 steel. This is my first time working with a non stainless steel and have really no idea how to care for it. Do I need to wipe it down every use? Do I need to worry about it rusting in my pocket from the humidity? Any suggestions would be great.

Also I used it to cut away a small bush yesterday and found it had black stuff all down the blade the next day. Was this rust? I didn't think it would rust that quickly.

OMG! RUST WILL DESTROY IT!

-Actually, just wipe it every once in a while with a dry cloth, or one with a bit of oil on it, that's it. Examine the pivot eery once in a while for dirt or rust and give it drop of oil (not a coating of oil). Wipe away anything sticking to it, you can also use alcohol to strip it of all oils & grease before you put new oil on it. That's it.

This fear of rust on knives is way overblown. How come you don't fear that your car, bike, computer, home, the roads we use, etc. etc. everything else will rust-away? People have been using carbon steel for 2 thousand+ years already, you can trust it.
