How to carry this neck knife?

I have an extremely small collection of folders that I like: A couple of Benchmades, a couple of Emersons and a Microtech mini Socom Elite M/A. I thought I wanted a neck knife to go into the handful of knives that I have and bid on ebay a couple of times on a Ronin, I like the La Griffs, but when I saw the Benchmade 160 TK at $25, I had to bid. I bought this little fella at $26.50 and what a steal [steel] it was.

I open the box and cut open these two shoe strings with a couple of pieces of surgical tubing attached? I find the instructions and put the thing together. I put my arm through it and around my neck in a cross-chest type of carry. I reach for the knife and pull. The string just rotates around. I try a different approach and pull straight down. The shoestrings come out of the plastic pieces. I am left holding the knife in its sheath with strings dangling down. I just had this feeling that I would not look too intimidating to the bad guys like this. Help??????

26.00??? Nice score!!!

I say, screw the "shoestrings." Get a nice length of breakaway chain or just some 550 paracord. Tie it around it in a manner that is comfortable and functional for you, not what Benchmade says.

And hey, at 26.00, I think I'm gonna start doing some ebay searches...

Good luck!

with that sheath I think you can 'thumb' the sheath off of the knife instead of the good ol' YANK!!! may not 'solve' all your troubles, but it's another way to do things...

Pitch the tube and tie the end of the strings in a knot.

You could also do para cord which is my preferred neck carry method.

Nice score on the blade!

Also, I'm not a knot guy, but there must be a knot that would work; strong enough not to fall off but also able to 'break away' if someone grabed it and tried to drag you around the block with it.

In the short 1/2 day that I have owned this one, I agree with Midget and the shoestrings have to go. I have also discovered that I can thumb the sheath off to a point, but that still won't let it free of the sheath totally. Maybe a thumb and an appropriate neck tie. I think that the Ronin comes with break away bead chain covered with parachord. The parachord against the body is nicer than just the chain and the chain will still allow a break away option. Parachord is a useful defense/offense tool and I am not wrapping it around my neck for the bad guys without some kind of break away feature.

OK, just say that I have an appropriate piece of tether, what are some of the popular ways to lace this thing?
