In a thread I did a while back I'd mentioned carrying some smouldering tinder fungus and it becoming too hot to hold, today I solved the problem.

Before I found any tinder fungus Snicker managed to find herself a squirrel which she quickly chased up a tree....cute little guy eh ~

I asked Maisy where there might be some tinder fungus and she suggested this stream, I think it was just an excuse to wet her paws !

Eventually I found some and as it had started to rain, placed it under a rock overhang to light it~

A little blowing to make sure it was going ~

Now to my idea for holding it so it can be transported, I just made a simple split stick ~

Now it can get as hot as it likes, my fingers are well outta the way !

As the tinder burns away the prongs of the split stick natuarally close up to take up the slack.

And yeah this stuff sure can get hot in a hurry !!!

A quick note about my knife. Bryan e-mailed me recently asking what, if anything , I'd change on the knife now I've had chance to use it a while. That is the kinda guy Bryan is, he genuinely cares that you are happy with his knives. I guess some knifemakers stop communication once the payment is in their account but that certainly isn't the case with Bryan !
I don't think I got back to him on this e-mail so if you see this post buddy, I really don't think there is anything I'd change. Maybe I'd consider a slight extended pommel, can't say I use those very much but they aren't really in the way so I guess better to have them and not use them than need them and not have them !
Weird thing is that since I began my 6 month experiment I've started to miss my other knives less and less..........maybe I should see a doc cos that can't be good !!!!!:o

Sorta like a new take on the fatwood torch:thumbup:

I envy this. The simpleton side of me often conflicts with the gear whore side of me, but I spose in the process of trying out a bunch of different stuff, eventually I'll find what I like best and be able to just have that. Will be curious to see how you feel once your 6 months is up and you can put your other blades to use again.

pitdog, that is a slick way to carry a tinder fungas. As to thinking you need to see the Dr. about not feeling like you do not need to use your other knives, that is normal once you get a Breeden knife :D.:p Heck since getting my Breeden knives I do not use any other brands or other custom makers knives either lol.

Ok Ok lol I'll be good:cool:.

As to your knife and what could be done, I could see a Exstended tang and I could also see palm swells too.

Anyways thanks for the kind words. And Yes I really do care and I really want you/ whoever to get the knife they want if they order one from me.

Again great idea for your tinder fungas carrier:thumbup:

Take care and I will chat with you later,

Bryan

Now I can't wait to get mine :)

Hi all,

echo-7 I can hardly wait to make um lol.

Pitdog, how long did that tinder fungas stay lit as a coal?

Bryan

That's pretty ingenious.

How are you finding tinder fungus in your area? I've looked in mine and can't find it. We don't have many birches except for around water though. Is that where you're finding it or is there another type of tree that it's growing on? How abundant is it?

Pretty abundant buddy although finding a dry one is another story ! Over here they are on the Douglas Firs !!!!

I kept blowing this one to get it hot for the pics Bryan so it lasted for only maybe 15 mins !
