Fairly new to CRK knives. I disassembled my Seb 31 to install a new lanyard and clean the bearings. I followed the info from this forum and some youtube videos. I must have reassembled the knife incorrectly because there is now side-to-side blade play between the closed and open position.

I have searched but have not found sufficient info on how to center a CRK blade on a Seb 31. Do the knowledgeable members on this sub-forum have any insight?

Look and see if there’s a gap on one side between the scales blade pivot bushing could be caught on a washer. If not sounds like the pivot isn’t
Tight enough.

As others have said, sounds like something didn't get assembled correctly. Sounds like the bushing isn't fully seated or the stop pin.
Follow their youtube video as Tim will show you how they do it and it should go back properly.

Sebenzas are simple. If you have blade play or the blade isn't centered you pinched a washer and you don't even need to insert the pivot to figure out if the blade is resting on a washer. Just hold the scales firmly and you can tell if it's centered or not. CRK won't give you Sebenza washers. You have to send them the knife for replacements.

To prevent this, I assemble the handles, then back off the screws just enough to slide in the blade with bushing and washers already on it. Makes it impossible to pinch a washer

I second this procedure

I’ve prooven myself capable of pinching washers under just about any circumstance. 😖

My s31 is a bit off center (correctly assembled). I mic’d the washers. I don't remember the exact number, but one of the washers was noticeably ticker than the other. There’s probably some room for lapping (she’s still a bit stiff), but I decided to leave it alone.

No one makes exact size washers? I always liked having backup hardware. I've lost some screws as well, but good thing I keep backups. Love to have backup washers.

CRK custom fits washers to each Sebenza because of the bushing. That's why CRK doesn't send them out but they will for blades without bushings.

One trick is to keep all the screws a little loose and then fold up a small piece of paper, then wedge the paper over the tip between the blade and scales. Tighten down the screws, remove the wedged paper. Idea is to keep it centered while you tighten the screws. Sometimes I can do this with my fingers by applying pressure to blade toward opposite side of the side the tip is favoring while tightening. Otherwise just keep putting it back together until centering looks good.

Gee, my 21 is always centered upon reassembly and doesn't need locktite...and the 31 is the "improved" version :)
