How to center a blade when the screws are stripped

I'll do it too.....KNIVES!!!

You cannot center a blade if you cannot loosen and tighten body and pivot screws.

If you have stripped screws, you're gonna have to address that issue before worrying about centering the blade.
Which screws are stripped? Is it the screws or the holes that are stripped?

Hey Dan!
He mentioned stripped heads, so I'm guessing he used one of those cheapo Torx tools and rounded the heads out.
Regardless.....can't center that blade with the screws like that.

Ahhh yes, stripped heads. Well, thats better than stripped holes!!:eek:
IIRC someone here had a trick for that. I think it involved an elastic band between the screw and the Torx tool or some such.

I think by the time you drill the pivot screw out and get a new one from one of the knife supply places you've exceded the value of the knife. (depending on how much you value your time)

I'd probably just pick up a Rat and move on with life

If you stripped the screws nothing can be done, get a new knife. Gerber is not that great anyway. Is it still under warranty? Send it back to see if they can fix it/replace it. Otherwise you can try and Dremel the screws so you can remove it with say a flat head screwdriver. They do make screw removal bits for a drill. They don't always work.

Im guessing they stripped because they are using loctite and you didn't stop but kept trying to loosen them up? If they won't come out with light pressure stop and get some heat. Heat gun works great, but also good soldering iron will work (not the cheap low heat ones). Also boiling water will work,set the knife in boiling water for a Lil bit.

Also good tools will be better. Try wiha torx bits.

But yea I agree with the others, pick up a better knife. Ontario rat 1 in d2 steel or if you wait until the end of the year they will have a rat 2 in d2 steel which is smaller.

Knife = 1
Knives = more than 1
I'm not sure but you can ask a mod to change your name.
