how to change thread title

how does a person change the thread title ?
i have seen where others have done it but i have no luck

That's a known bug. Sometimes you can do it, sometimes it doesn't work.

There's another way a moderator can do it that always works, if it really needs to be changed, but that way is only available to moderators.

i knew if you were quick enough you could change it , but i have seen where others have changed their sale thread to shown 'sold' so maybe that was a moderator that done that ?

Nordic Viking knows a bit about vBulletin and I'm sure he knows the way it's s'posed to be ... but it ain't the way it s'posed to be! It makes no sense at all; there is no pattern to it.
