How to clean a Sebenza Video.

Just finished watching your video.

Very well done and Thank You.

All the Best!

Great first video. Keep em coming. Im thinking about making some videos now too
since my collection is slowly coming along.

Well done, I like the pivot tool, How do you make that tool?

thank you guys for the good comments. As far as the pivot tool, I emailed chris reeves and they kindly took it as solicitation. All I wanted was to get a good product out to sebenza users like myself. It is a slow process, I am working on producing them on my own. The tool you see is just a prototype of my original idea. My prototype is completely hand carved to specifications.
it is made from hard plastic so you don't scratch your knife.

Nice video one correction to save a lot trouble down the road for other people is that be sure to make tight the stop screw and back screw. This ensures that if you do not have the blade assembly correct that it does not slid in and then you pinch a washer. We have this a lot so I always advise this.Good job one of the best I have seen.

Thank you Chris Reeve, You know your knives better than anyone. I think you have the best knives in the industry. so what you are saying is before opening the knife everything should be tight. I have been getting a lot of comments about my pivot tool, I was just wondering what you think.
thank you

Curious minds want to know.....:D:thumbup:

Really nice video, like the little tool as well.

I don't know if it is a good idea to add the grease to the tang where it makes contact with the lock bar though?.

I put the grease on the tang, because titanium is a not as hard as steel. the steel will ware out the titanium. this is the reason over time the lock bar goes over to the other side. as a example, glass is very hard, and all it takes is one hit and it will break. plastic you can hit it and bend it and it will still be in one piece. this is how titanium works.

You are essentially lubing up the lock bar though, not a good idea. I do not mean any disrespect, but the lock bar is suppose to wear and move over with time. I would think that adding the grease would put a thin barrier between the blade and tang compromising the function of the lock, not to mention making it slick than snot, making it much more vulernable of closing on you accidentally.

I thought you used a lot of grease, just leads to excessive lint and dust collection in that area.

Thanks for the video.

Wow, I have to say that I am a little surprised with all the "Great video but I would have done this different..." responses. I am a total newb when it comes to Sebenzas but not to knives (been collecting them since I was 5 years old). I really appreciate the video cofade2black posted. It is a great starting point for someone like me who will one day have to detail strip my Sebenza and give it a good cleaning. Will I do it exactly like him? Probably not but that is not to say that I won't use 90% of what he is demonstrating.

I am just venting a little because I see this all the time, a guy takes time out of his day to help the community as a whole and a few people (not all) have to thow in thier $.02 of what that person could have done better or different. My response to that is, then do one of your own!

I can adapt and old musicians joke to this situation....here it is:

Q: "How many people does it take to detail strip, clean, and oil a Sebenza?"

A: "Six! One to do it and 5 to say they could have done it better!"

End vent.....

thank you for the help. I am not offended about anything. these forums are here to give input. and by all of us working together we can come up with a good solution. these knives do not come with instructions on the tear down process and therefore have to depend on each other for advise. lots of people have an idea on how to sharpen a sebenza. I have had many sebenzas come and go. I have used a spyderco sharpmaker, a flat stone, and after different ways of sharpening I found that on a slight convex edge that comes with a sebenza a strop with bark river solution works best for me. My hopes is that we can all come up with the best way to clean a sebenza, or the manufacture could issue instructions. this will put the guessing in the past. I personally have collected knives for over 15 years and have yet to see a better quality knife than a sebenza. this is compared to the strider, and other high end knives.

Nicely done cofade2black  Virtually identical to what I do as well. I am sure this video will help lots of people with there cleaning. Love the tool as well.

Best

cofade2black it was a great video, and is probably 95% of the way I do it as well. Just need to get one of them fancy little tools.:D

Again I did'nt mean to disrespect or clutter up the thread. That was just a first for me seeing the grease applied to the tang/lock bar engagement.
