How to clean bayonet

Recently acquired an authentic Canadian Forces C7 Nella bayonet. It was in very good condition but I accidentally left it in a humid place yesterday and noticed stippled spots of rust. I was able to wipe it off with ballistol but still see some faint spots of rust. How can I clean it? How can I prevent this in the future? Is ballistol universal better than honing oil?

Thanks in advance.

A little rubbing with steel wool will take the rust out. I like to use 000 or Very Fine because I have it on hand for working wood, and it will leave lighter trails on the metal. You can use the eraser side of a fresh pencil to push through the wool and get precise control of where you are putting pressure. If the blade is going to be at risk for rust spots regularly, forcing a patina with vinegar or mustard will protect it if you don't want leave it oil coated. Any oil will work, be aware that Ballistol and honing oil will not be as food safe as mineral oil if you plan to bayonet a can of Spam. A little Blueing solution works too if food safe isn't an issue, it's stronger than forced patina but it's a pain to dispose of the chemicals afterwards.

I'm not familiar with that bayonet but, 0000 steel wool (used gently) will remove most surface rust on bare steel. Bronze wool is even safer.
I doubt you want to "patina" your bayonet or cold blue it.
Ballistol is fine for protection. Inspect regularly and reapply as necessary.

Ballistol is basically mineral oil; smells funny but works fine. Plain old Vaseline is cheap and works well, is food safe and doesn't stink. Then there are lots of other rust preventives, like BreakFree CLP, various wipes, and waxes.

I was under the impression that the C7 has a stainless blade. If so bluing would not work.
