I have an emerson that has some lint and dust on the blade and inside the handle area. Is there any type of wipes I can use to wipe down the blade? What about lubricating the knife? What should I use to clean the inside? Thanks.

I just blew the crud out of a Spydie with WD-40 and the plastic nozzle. Out of Gun Scrubber.
Worked great.
:)

You can use the canned air that they sell to blow the dust out of computer keyboards to blow the dust out of you knife. You should also be able to wash it in mild soap and water, maybe use a brush if needed to get into the crevices. Rinse it in the hottest water possible and it will dry quickly. WD-40 would probably be a good idea after such a cleaning. . . The "WD" stands for water displacement. It's not the greatest lubricant though, so follow up with some 3 in one oil or something like that on the blade pivot.

anybody else have suggestions? what about those knife kits? and should I take my emerson cqc apart to clean it?

I use 3-in-1 oil on my stainless knives or Mineral oil on higher carbon blades.

A good rinse with water (I'll have to start making it HOT!) and then I usually use Isopropyl alcohol to "degrease" it as well. Then the oil...then back to using it!

I pretty much do what Salamander42 describes. No biggie. Hey it's a knife. It's supposed to live in the real world.

i use very hot water, a toothbrush and a drop of dish soap to clean, rinse well in very very hot water, wipe the blade with tuffglide then lube the pivot with tuffglide.

works for me.

When I was my folders I just wash it under warm water and then some hot water. Use a napkin or something to dry out as much water as possible and wipe off any grime that didnt come off. Then blast with compressed air to get out any remaining water or sludge around the pivot area. If its really dusty I might blast it with air before running it through water.

I use to lube my EDC but not anymore but it is an axis lock so I guess I dont have to. For my other folders I use a precision lube applicator from radio shack. Its a silicon based lube.

Blow it out. Squirt with cigarette lighter fluid and then swab out with a Q tip. Dry it with a paper towel and then lubricate the pivots with your favorite oil. I tend to clean the bolsters, blade, liners and back with Nevr-Dull. Which is pretty much WD-40 impregnated cotton wadding.

I also recommend the compressed air cannisters, and hot water, (or warm water) with a good liquid detergent such as Palmolive or Dawn.

Dry thoroughly with compressed air, and a cloth - 100% cotton undershirt is very good for this.

I use Birchwood Casey "Gun Scrubber," air dry, then lube the pivot points with Mobil One synthetic. SPARINGLY!!!:D

Fixed blades get washed with a Scotch-Brite pad, hot water and dish detergent, or Bon Ami, wiped down and air dried. It works for me!:)
