Hey everyone. I finally went out and bought a quality knife. I got the ever so popluar delica. I got it about 2 minutes ago and im already pissed about the finger prints on the blade :D. I was just wondering what you guys do to keep your knives clean looking.

Detials on both how to just do a quick blade clean and also details on how to fully clean it inside and out would be appreciated.

Quick clean? 3-in-1 oil and a paper towel. Wipe down the blade with a VERY thin film, and then wipe that off. Removes dirt, fingerprints, etc. Also, put a drop in the pivot.

Semi-full clean? Spray down with WD-40. Repeat former.

Full clean? Disassemble, wash everything in water with detergent. Reassemble.

I use Sentry Solutions' Tu-Cloth and Tuf-Glide exclusively on my knives. Wipe down the steel parts of the knife with the Tuf-Cloth, and lighly oil any parts with metal-to-metal contact with Tuf-Glide. After that, it's just a matter of wiping off fingerprints with a soft cloth and blowing out the pocket lint with a can of compressed air (cheap 4-packs at Costco).

I used to have problems with ATS-34 blades spotting if not regularly wiped down with a silicone gun cloth, but since I started using the Tuf-Cloth several years ago, I have NEVER had a knife spot or pit on me.

Good suggestions so far. For a quick clean, I usually just wipe the blade off with a towel, or rinse it under running water if it's really grubby. For a deeper cleaning, I put the knife in a container, usually a glass of some sort, and then add some dish soap and really hot water. I let the knife sit for a few minutes, then rinse it out with hot water. Blow out any excess water, and then let it dry. A hair dryer can help. You can also use some WD-40 to disperse water from the interior of the knife. However, it's not the best lube in the world. Wipe off the excess with a paper towel after you spray it on. Finally, lube the pivot with a lubricant of your choice. Tri-Flow works pretty well, but for something really slick, try Militec-1. It's an amazing lube.

soap and hot water... simple wipedown if the blade is stainless, and mineral oil if the blade is carbon

Well, I'm guessing you have VG-10 Delica right?? (That was my favorite one hander EDC knife till it was confiscated...) It's a great knife, but don't be worried about fingerprints too much... becuase I hate to tell you: VG-10 holds onto fingerprints more then any other bladesteel I've ever used...

ATS-55, S30V, Aus 6, 440C, and Victorinox's SS are the other blade steels I've owned, and none of them take fingerprints like VG-10, LOL. :p Beleive me, you are better off letting it go, unless you want to clean it every time you touch it.
