I have this knife and I don't know what the stain is from. It doesn't feel like rust but maybe it is. It feels more like some kind of sludge but not sure how it got there since I never used it. Probably should've kept it oiled, right? Is there a way to clean it? I don't want to make it worse which is probably what would happen if I tried something without asking first.

With that little, I'd be surprised if you couldn't remove it with some toothpaste on your fingertip even. Just be sure to protect it with something if you don't want it to happen again (I'm partial to Frog Lube these days, myself).

Toothpaste worked!!! Will post pics.

Jeez, Frog Lube is expensive. Must be good stuff. Would gun oil work? I have some 2nd Amendment tools and oil in storage but what about WD-40 until I can get there? Or is that a bad idea?

Mineral oil works fine too and is food safe, just don't store the blade in leather and you won't get marks like you have. Pretty much any oil will work to keep it in good shape.
