How to clean thumb stud?

Hey all. I just got my very first Benchmade knife a couple days ago. It was a showroom model, so it had been handled some before. As a result the thumb stud already has some discoloration on it. See it here - http://imgur.com/bxe2VP1

I know it's not a big deal, but kinda bugs me now that I'm aware of it. Is there a way I can clean that up?

Thanks in advance.

Some Simichrome or Flitz metal polish should work. Might scrub it with something like a ScotchBrite pad, or perhaps a stiff brush.

Bar Keepers Friend powder, mixed to a paste with some water, could also remove it. Use a Q-tip to apply the paste, then let it sit for no longer than 30-60 seconds. Then rinse it off thoroughly with running water. The oxalic acid in the BKF dissolves iron oxide (probably light rust you're seeing on the stud), and it can basically be wiped off with minimal scrubbing. BKF shouldn't stay on the steel too long, else it can actually etch the steel (hence the 30-60 second limit).
