How to contact sellers?

Searched for and found a specific knife model for sale a couple months back. I can't seem to find a way to PM or email the seller to see if it's still available. I tried replying to the post, but I guess because it's a few months old, it didn't go back to the top.

Is there any way to contact the seller?

You can leave a message on the seller's profile page by clicking on his/her avatar and selecting "Profile Page". When the profile page comes up you will see a box for typing a message.

Your message will be visible to anyone who visits the member's profile page so keep that in mind if leaving private information. The message can be deleted by the member once you have made private contact.

If the sale thread is a few months old, the chances of that item still being available and slim. Post in their thread or as stated get to their profile page and leave a message. Just don't ask a member to sell you anything (openly) unless they have the appropriate gold or higher membership. It's against the rules.

Threads won't bump back to the top in the sales forums, they are fixed in the order in which they are listed. But if the seller has his settings set to watch threads in which he has posted, then when someone posts to his thread it will pop up in his 'unread watched threads' list, so it wasn't a bad idea to make a post there and it might bring it to the seller's attention. I've sold blades from old sales that way, although I've sold more where the buyer simply sent me a PM after perusing old threads.

Problem with leaving somebody a public message (what was a visitor message) on their profile is that the member is apparently not alerted when a message arrives. At least I'm not, so you have to keep check all the time by opening them up. I missed a couple of friendly messages and can't reply to them as some members don't make their contact arrangements known. Under the old system you could e-mail somebody (if they allowed it) or leave a Visitor message that would be immediately visible to them. It seems that people just don't realize they have messages on their profile page and thus may not delete content like e-mail addr for a long time?

Right after the software change I found what I think was a visitor message from 2014. I deleted it. Don't even remember what it was about.

So yes, I would agree that visitor messages are not a reliable way to reach someone and may leave potentially sensitive info exposed.
