You let him (or her) use or hold one. :D

A while back I got a BK1 Brute and a Camillus BK9 the same day in the mail. I met a buddy of mine for lunch. As I was waxing poetic about my "new" knives, I found out that he had never even HEARD of Beckers, much less used one.

After lunch, we went out to my car and I popped the hatch on my Prius and pulled out the Brute first. I handed it to him and he said "OMG, I need one of these!!!!" He was very disappointed when I told him they were discontinued. Then I pulled out the 9 and said "Here, try this one." He said "OH, S%^&, this feels just as good as the other one." To which I replied, "Yeah, that's what happens when you use the same handle on all of them."

I then went to the front seat and pulled out the BK2 that I keep in the glove box and said, "Here, try this. It's the 9's 'little brother'." He was a little amazed that all 3 knives just kinda fit his hand so well. (Note- he's a big guy - was a starting linebacker for A&M back in the 90s.) I told him that there were several that fell in between the 2 knives, the 5,7 and 10.

Today he texted me that his BK9 had arrived. I responded with "Great. You can't not have a 9. :D". His response was "I got a 7 too". I responded that after he started using them, he was gonna get addicted, and he responded that his 2 was supposed to arrive "any day".

With that, I called him and asked if he had ordered all of the Beckers. Nope, just the 3 knives. All that from just letting him hold a 1, a 2 and a 9 for a couple of minutes each. Weather permitting, he's gonna be breaking in the 9 on his ranch this weekend. I told him to take some pics.

I think part of it may also be that since he has a friend who already owns one (or more) of these knives, there's a little social "permission" to get one himself...just a hunch about human nature.

Could be. However, he does have large hands and has said the only "knives" that felt decent in his hands were machetes.

The handle is how I got a coworker to buy a 9. He was looking for a bowie type chopper and I let him fondle my 2 and then showed him the pics of the 9, explaining the "same handle" design feature. He ordered it online right then and there. He loves that 9!!! He's been looking at the 16 as well, but hasn't pulled the trigger yet.

Good job on creating a potential Beckerhead, he'll be hooked soon enough!

I think he's already hooked. He had both the 9 and the 7 out of the boxes and was playing with them while I was talking to him. He said he had to get back to work. :D (Works IT support from home so he was there when the brown truck delivered them.)

I think a lot of people who never heard of BKT aren't as widely read as others, such as the members on this forum. Most people, I would think, know only what they see in stores. Cheap-o Wally World knives, gas station specials, etc.

I just snatched a BK1 off the exchange. Since Kevin wanted my BK1 right off the gitgo, after I get this one in, I'm gonna offer him his choice of either this one or the other one I already have for what I'm paying for this one. For me, it's a win-win situation... Either my best friend gets a BK1 and is happy and I get to be happy for him as well, or I get to have another one to play with and I'm happy. :D:D:D
